University of Cincinnati Comprehensive Stroke Center

The Comprehensive Stroke Center, together with the University of Cincinnati Stroke Team and the surgical/interventional neurovascular program, provides a comprehensive center for stroke prevention and the treatment of transient ischemic attack (TIA), ischemic stroke, aneurysm, arteriovenous malformation, and other cerebrovascular conditions.

In July 2013 the UC Medical Center was certified by the Joint Commission as an Advanced Comprehensive Stroke Center, a new level of certification reserved for institutions with specific abilities to receive and treat the most complex stroke cases. There is no higher stroke certification.

The UC Medical Center had been previously designated a Primary Stroke Center. That recognition, first achieved in 2005, certified that the physicians and clinical staff follow nationally recognized best practices for the treatment of stroke.
